Obituary for Floyd Robert Seidel

Floyd Robert Seidel, of Huntsville, MO, passed away Sunday, December 10, 2017 at the age of 91.
He was born on January 4, 1926 in Newburg, MO to the late Harvey Seidel and Pearl (Harris) Seidel.
In addition to his parents, Floyd was preceded in death by four brothers, Gus, Ira, Lee and Vernie; six sisters, Ruth, Iva, Geneva, Elizabeth, Darlene and Bernice; and a son-in-law, Steven Ortega.
Floyd grew up on his family farm near Newburg. As a young man, he served our country in World War II, then settled in the Mt. Vernon, Illinois area and began farming. After purchasing his first farm in Bellerive, Illinois, he married Marilyn Davis on February 5, 1955 and started their family. Floyd and Marilyn had four children together and spent their lives on the farm, where he said it was not just making a living, but a way of life. Floyd enjoyed the country life, hunting, fishing, swimming and playing cards. They moved back to central Missouri in 1963, finished raising the family near Hallsville, leaving a life-long legacy of love of family, hard work and integrity. Floyd was cherished by the young ones. Over the years as he relaxed in his recliner many a grandchild could be found on his lap. He’d talk and sing to them, tell stories, maybe tease them or just hold them as they slept. He and Marilyn were residing in rural Huntsville at the time of his death. His final resting place will be returning him to his roots, as he would say, “down home”.
Floyd will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes: his wife, Marilyn Seidel of Huntsville, MO; four children, Roberta Seidel of Huntsville, MO, Gary Seidel and wife Rachel of Renick, MO, Janet Ortega of Gladstone, MO and Mark Seidel and wife Teresa of Clark, MO; one sister, Sarah Maxwell of St. James, MO; a sister-in-law, Alta Seidel of Athens, GA; seven grandchildren, Jessie Shilling, Drew Seidel and wife Megan, Chelsea Roush and husband Mike, Alex Ortega, Emily Seidel, Ryan Seidel and Emma Seidel; and seven great grandchildren, Kinley Shilling, Maddie Seidel, Rylee Seidel, Brycen Seidel, Brooklynn Ortega, Carlee Ortega and Kyla Moreno.
A funeral service for Floyd R. Seidel will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 2017 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla, MO. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Davis Cemetery in rural Maries County. A visitation for family and friends will be held prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Davis Cemetery.
