Obituary for Jewell Dean Hudgens

Jewell Dean (Phelps) Hudgens was born on August 31, 1933 to the late George and Sally (Gabel) Phelps in Flat, MO. On Monday, March 26, 2018 she left this life peacefully surrounded by family and friends in Springfield, MO.
Jewell married Wilbert Hudgens on June 27, 1952 and moved into their new home Wilbert had built for them in Vida, MO which remained her home her entire life.
To this union, three children blessed their lives, Judy, Lonnie and Joyce.
Jewell accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and lived her life to please Him and tried to instill her faith in her family and friends.
She went to work at an early age at the Greyhound Bus station. She then worked at the Rolla shoe factory. Then, she and Wilbert became the owners and operators of several livestock auctions. That, along with the family farm, was her life. She helped anyone in her path as well as cooking and making all welcome to her kitchen table. In later years, she enjoyed watching her grandchildren show livestock at the county fairs. The grandkids called her “Granny Go-Go”.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde Phelps and Wilbert Phelps and two sisters, Josephine White and Magdalene Fannon.
Jewell will be greatly missed by her surviving family which includes: one son, Lonnie Hudgens and wife Connie of Rolla; two daughters, Judy Romine and husband Carl and Joyce Williams and husband Bob, all of Rolla; a twin sister, Ruby Lewis of Springfield, MO; a sister-in-law, Bonnie Phelps of Rolla; five grandchildren, Daniel Romine and wife Tasha, Amber Romine, Hayley Williams, Kelsey Edwards and husband Kelan and Lindsey Hudgens; seven great grandchildren; Mary Beth Romine, Michael Romine, Knox Romine, Stockton Williams, Kadyn Edwards, Hadlee Poe and Cameron Allen; a special niece and nephew, Tori Poe Weller and husband Curtis and Bryon Poe and wife Darla and many other family and dear friends.
A funeral service for Jewell D. Hudgens will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, 2018 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Interment will follow in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5-8 p.m. on Friday, March 30 at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
