Obituary for Leo William Higley, Jr.

Leo William “Bill” Higley, Jr. was born in St. Louis, MO on April 4, 1921 to the late Leo W. Higley Sr. and Grace Elinor (Monahan) Higley.
On November 11, 1946, in Rolla, he married Eleanor Louise “Ellie” Parkhurst and to this union eight children were born. Mrs. Higley preceded Bill in death on November 6, 2016.
After graduating from Rolla High School, he received a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Missouri School of Mines. The majority of his career included working for the Department of Interior, Bureau of Mines as a Research Metallurgist in Rolla. He was a faithful supporter of St. Patrick School and participated in all the various activities of the school, teaching CCD religion program and continued volunteering with his wife at the school as Senior Volunteers even after all the grandchildren were gone. He was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and participated in liturgical ministries in the church. His hobbies included fishing, camping, travel, scouting, gardening and spending as much time with family as possible. Faith, family and friends were most important to him and a priority to him, most all connected to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
He died peacefully in his sleep on the afternoon of July 19 fortified by the Sacraments of the Church.
In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Higley was preceded in death by one grandson, Ryan Malone.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes four sons, Leo William Higley III (Edie), of Chesterfield, MO, Michael Higley (Mary), of Seguin, TX, Timothy Higley (Ed), of Houston, TX, and Msgr. Gregory Higley, of Hermann, MO; four daughters, Eleanor Abele (Charles), of Littleton, CO, Katie Schmidt (Stan), of Carthage, MO, Mary Malone (Ward), of St. Augustine, FL, and Ann Roberts, of New York City, NY; one sister, Patrice Dotson, of Eugene, OR; fifteen grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren.
A funeral Mass for Bill Higley will be held at 10 am Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla. Interment will follow in the Rolla City Cemetery. A Rosary service will be held at 6 pm Monday, July 23rd at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla followed by a visitation for family and friends until 8 pm. Friends will also be able to greet the family at St. Patrick’s prior to the Mass Tuesday beginning at 9 am.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Patrick Catholic School or the Rolla Presbyterian Manor Employee Christmas Fund.
