Obituary for John William Wright, II

John William “Bill” Wright II, of Rolla, passed away January 28, 2019 at the age of 86.
He was born in East St. Louis, IL on September 15, 1932 to the late John W. Wright and Augusta Rose (Petrie) Wright.
Mr. Wright earned a bachelor’s degree in geological engineering from the Missouri School of Mines, now Missouri S&T. He was a decorated U.S. Air Force Veteran having served during the Korean War. He was a staunch supporter of the Democratic Party. He also enjoyed pursuing his interests in green technology.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his second wife, Karen Wright.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes three sons, John W. Wright III, of Rolla, Patrick Lealon Wright and wife Julie, of Phoenix, AZ, and Preston Allen Wright and wife Jessica, of Titusville, FL; one sister, Mary Kathryn Wright, of Chesterfield, MO; his first wife, Jean Wright, of Scottsdale, AZ; four grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kathryn Wright and Nathan and Colin Wright; other extended family members and dear friends.
John William "Bill" Wright sojourned upon this earth as a dreamer. A man incurably human but who left his mark on the souls of all he met. With the simple statement of "how are you" his quick response to all was 'much better since you asked". One look in his eyes would tell you he meant it and he appreciated your asking. To those who knew him closely, his passion for life and adventure never superseded the genuine care for every detail in your life. Though he lost his father in World War II early in life and spent years in an orphanage, he never lost his zest for life. With a simple wink, you knew you were seeing the charm of Dick Van Dyke coupled with the wit of Will Rogers. As a lover of exploration, he was a forever fan of getting off this planet and supported the space program emphatically. As for this planet, he was the eternal Cubs fan, which, as he would say 'if you are a Cubs fan, you love baseball, because winning is not part of the equation". This world will miss his Irish shenanigans, but he will forever be in the hearts of those who he touched.
The Wright family will celebrate his life with a gathering to be held in Florida.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Rolla Animal Shelter.
