Obituary for Russell Duane 'Deke' Edmonds

Russell Duane “Deke” Edmonds, of Rolla, passed away at the Missouri Veteran's Home in St. James on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the age of 76.

He was born in Lesterville, Missouri on February 20, 1941 to the late James Russell and Berniece (Pinkley) Edmonds.

On November 28, 1992 he married Margaret “Maggie” (Neil) Langley, who survives.

Deke never met a stranger and always had a smile and a positive attitude for everyone. He loved people and was involved in many charitable organizations and activities. He served as president of the Red Cross in Cochise County, AZ and as president of the Lions Club. He was always willing to give his time and energy. Deke served honorably in the United States Army for twenty years. He received the purple heart after being wounded in Vietnam. He was also the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross awarded by the Republic of Vietnam. After retiring from the Army, Deke spent 21 years in Civil Service at Fort Huachuca, AZ. He was a patriot and loved serving his country. Deke was the kind of man who would give you anything he had if you were in need.. He was a wonderful person and an inspiration to many.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Edmonds was preceded in death by his brother Gary Edmonds.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, cousin and dear friend who will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife, Maggie Edmonds, of Rolla; children, Elizabeth Debeaux and husband Woodrow, of Richland, MO, Jared D. Edmonds, of Sierra Vista, AZ, Teresa Jones and husband Chad, of O'Fallon, IL and Todd Langley and wife Tammy, of Swansea, IL; nine grandchildren, April Edmonds, Abigail Edmonds, Alysa Philpott, James Philpott, Dan Langley, Sarah Yates, Travis Langley, Karli Langley and Katie Langley; five great grandchildren; cousins, other extended family members and many dear friends.

A funeral service celebrating the life of Deke Edmonds will be held at 10 am Tuesday, October 31, 2017 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Missouri Veterans' Cemetery in Waynesville, MO. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-8 pm Monday, October 30, 2017 at Null and Son.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or the Missouri Veteran's Home in St. James.
