Obituary for Alfred Everett Niles

Alfred Everett “Al” Niles, of Rolla, passed away Thursday, April 5, 2018 at the age of 84.
He was born in Smith Center, Kansas on August 25, 1933 to the late Austin J. Niles and Doris I. (Johnson) Niles.
Mr. Niles was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served honorably in Korea from 1953-1955. He attended and earned a bachelors of science degree in geology from Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS, where he also served as President of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. On April 9, 1966 he married Elizabeth A. “Libby” Jones and they were later blessed with three children. Al had a distinguished career in civil service spanning 37 years. He retired in 1994 as Division Chief at the U.S. Geological Survey in Rolla. He was an active member of the Salem Avenue Baptist Church in Rolla for many years, a forty-year member of the Rolla Lions Club, and member of the Korean War Veterans. Al was an avid St. Louis Cardinal, Kansas State Wildcat and Rolla Bulldog fan. Among his many interests and talents were spending time with his family, traveling, trapshooting, golfing, hunting, fishing and vegetable and flower gardening.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ardis Watts and Roma Lee Thomas.
Al will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his wife of fifty-two years, Libby Niles, of Rolla; three children, Dora Niles Loethen and husband Michael, of Hallsville, MO, Debra Niles Bobinger and partner Lyle Hutchens, of Rolla, and Roger B. Niles and wife Megan, of Austin, TX; seven grandchildren, Austin, Makinna, Ashlyn, and Lydia Loethen, Taylor Bobinger, Anna and Everett Niles; nieces, nephews, other extended family members and dear friends.
A funeral service for Al Niles will be held at 10 am Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Salem Avenue Baptist Church in Rolla. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Rolla City Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held from 2-4 pm Sunday, April 8th at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Phelps Regional Hospice, Rolla Senior Companion Program or the Salem Avenue Baptist Church.
