Obituary for Walter Ray Ellis

Walter Ray Ellis, of Rolla, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018 at the age of 89.
He was born in Montgomery County, MO on March 15, 1929 to the late Guy and Minnie (Schutt) Ellis.
On his birthday in 1980 he married Ann (Frank) Henderson Ellis who preceded him in death on April 13, 2010.
Mr. Ellis was a retired U.S. Army Veteran. He had a distinguished military career spanning twenty-three in active duty beginning in 1945, serving in the Green Berets and being honorably discharged in 1968. Ray served in World War II, Korea, and two tours in Vietnam earning the rank of Sergeant First Class. Among his many awards were five Purple Hearts, The Bronze Star and the Distinguished Service Cross.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Vernon Ellis.
He will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his daughter, Judie James, of Rolla; four grandchildren, Danyele Gulledge and husband Adam, of Rolla, Shaylyne Gough and husband Andy of Orange, VA, Patrick Thompson and wife Natasha of Lake Ozark, MO, and Joshua Ellis and wife Brandi of Bella Vista, AR; ten great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; three nephews; other extended family members and dear friends.
A graveside committal service with full military honors for Ray Ellis will take place at 10 am Thursday, April 12, 2018 at the Missouri Veteran's Cemetery in Waynesville, MO.
